"Most of us can hold an opinion of a book that is at odds
with our opinion of its author."
-Joseph O'Neill, The Atlantic, September 2011
That a writer would feel the need to point this out strikes
me as deeply insightful about our current culture.
We are expected to take one
view and stick with it--in almost everything.
This is the unwritten curriculum
in many of our schools and much of our society.
The result is shallow thinking.
