"...we are primarily wanderers, not decision-makers."
-David
Brooks
Most human beings seem genetically wired to seek
experiences, enjoyment, and are content to sit back and let others make the big
decisions.
When those decisions directly impact us in negative ways, we usually
change our tune and fight back.
But when decisions are made far away and don't
impact us for a while, or we are unaware they are being made, we seldom stand
up for ourselves.
Through history, this has allowed the few to control the
many.
The American founding generation discovered a powerful
secret (actually, they re-discovered
it from the ancient Israelites), that when the regular people emphasize the
role of decision-makers all of the time, rather than only when they are under
attack, they can all be free and more prosperous.
This revolution created the modern free government.
Today, in the first quarter of the 21st century,
we seem to have reverted more to the wanderer role.
Unless this changes, our
freedoms are in grave danger.
