Abundance is a true principle (when widespread, it generally increases human satisfaction and happiness), yet through history most governments have made it their major goal to crush abundance and prosperity in the masses and give it to the aristocracy or royalty.  

Anyone who thinks this can't happen in the United States doesn't take the experience of history very seriously. 

As Santayana famously said, those who don't learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them. 

If we are arrogant enough to think that it can't happen to us, then it most certainly will.
