"For the wise men of old the cardinal problem had been how
to conform the soul to reality, and the solution had been knowledge,
self-discipline, and virtue. For magic and applied science alike the problem is
how to subdue reality to the wishes of men..."
--C.S. Lewis
It is good to stop and ponder our world
once in a while.
Are we a society bent on becoming better people, or using
discovery and invention to allow us to be lax people without suffering
immediate consequences?
In addition to answering this on a personal level, consider
how it applies to our politics, governance and freedoms.
Are we as a society
doing the things that genuinely earn freedom?
Or do we want to be free but
unbothered with maintaining our freedom?
Do we wish others would handle things
like freedom so we could just enjoy the benefits?
