The far left and the extreme
right are often pessimistic. Worse, they frequently come across as angry. They
make personal attacks on political opponents. Some won't listen to you if you
say anything remotely positive about President Obama, Paul Ryan or anybody they consider a
political enemy.
Those who adopt pessimism, anger
and personal attacks as fundamental tools of politics have proven one thing: if
you look for the bad in things, you'll find it. Unfortunately, these tactics are used by some on the left,
right and center.
This is not the spirit of
freedom.
Be objective in your analysis. Find positive things to say--even about your political opponents, and
especially about those you often disagree with. This is a mark of maturity and will help build bridges with those who need not be enemies, and who can help craft a better tomorrow. Those who find this impossible usually come off as cranks and ideologues, and their only audience are those who already agree with them.
It's okay to disagree, but do it with respect, dignity and class. Freedom is most
effectively promoted by positive, optimistic people.
