The spirit of a free nation is based on the spirit of ownership, of taking responsibility for one's nation, its policies and its future. Dennis R. Deaton wrote in the excellent book, Ownership Spirit:

"The consummate truth of life is that we alter our destiny by altering our thoughts. The mind is our most crucial faculty, our crowning asset, our ultimate arena of battle."

If our thoughts about our government are mostly negative, we need to change our attitude and get involved in making it a government we can be proud of. The United States really is a government of, by and for the people--but that means we have to do our part. We have to own it.

We have to take active, daily ownership.
