The "Regular" Citizen's Role

"To judge from the conduct of the opposite parties, we shall be led to conclude that they will mutually hope to evince the justness of their opinions, and to increase the number of their converts by the loudness of their declamations and the bitterness of their invectives."
Some things never seem to change. Political party loudness is no substitute for wisdom, deep thinking and good leadership.

Federalist 1 goes on to say,
"...that the vigor of government is essential to the security of liberty."
In other words, the American founders believed that we needed a strong government to protect and maintain freedom, but that the citizens must not be swayed by loud party rhetoric.

Freedom is strengthened when the regular citizens see past political arguments and deeply study the issues for themselves.

We want a strong and also limited government, since this is what has always brought and maintained free society.

Such a system depends on the wisdom and consistent involvement of the regular people, however.
